As part of Lighting Metropolis’ vision to establish an innovation platform for Smart City lighting solutions, three of the leading universities in Greater Copenhagen are now intensifying their efforts to create the fundamental underlying platform for research development and knowledge sharing.
At a gathering of researchers, scientists and project managers at DTU campus in Risø, by the Roskilde fjord in Denmark, the Lighting Metropolis research team held at workshop on how to develop, share and utilise their combined work, with the dual purpose of enabling the region take a leading position in innovative and urban lighting, as well as shedding light on the technical, environmental, economic and psychological aspects of the latest solutions.
Johannes Lindén, postdoc at DTU Photonics, demonstrates an ‘integrating sphere’, and how it enables the measurement of the spread of any light source.
The lighting industry is currently undergoing an unprecedented technical development which pushes a number of important issues high up on the international agenda, from big data handling and personal integrity to sustainability and how to nudge municipalities towards creating innovation in lighting procurement for the benefit of everyone in the long term.
The three universities and the respective faculties are:
- Technological University of Denmark (DTU) – Photonics
- Lund University – Environmental Psychology / IIIE
- Aalborg University (AAU) – Department of Architecture, Design & Media Technology
In October, the team will meet up again to discuss and specify the plan & process in which a working research platform can take shape, initially to support the Lighting Metropolis demonstration projects, and eventually for wider use.
